Why Your Social Media Isn’t Bringing in Customers (And How to Fix It)

It has become a well-known fact that every business needs to have a social media presence. You may have already started posting on your platforms and found yourself asking, “Why aren’t I getting sales?”

Let’s shine a light on a few reasons why your social media isn’t bringing in customers and how to overcome them.

1. Posting without a strategy

Social media is not Harry Potter. You cannot expect that, with one random post every few weeks, a spell will be cast on your followers and sales will magically be generated.

A strategy needs to be developed each month based on clear objectives. These objectives may include building brand awareness, increasing enquiries, or boosting sales. Setting objectives is the first step in creating a successful strategy.

The next step is determining the right mix of posts to create. Your content should not focus solely on selling but should also help build a strong community, which in turn creates a loyal customer base.

2. Inconsistent branding

When starting a new business, branding should be one of the first items on your to-do list. This includes having a recognisable logo, brand colours, font choices, a consistent tone of voice, and more.

Strong branding helps make your business recognisable at a glance and should be reflected across your social media platforms, website, content, and marketing materials.

3. No clear call-to-action

“People need to be told what to do.”

Although this phrase may sound a little direct, it is true. When writing your social media posts, you should always end with a clear call-to-action. This could be something like, “Contact us to learn more” or “Visit our website to view our products.”

It may seem simple, but it encourages people to take the next step.

4. Ignoring analytics

One of the biggest advantages of social media compared to traditional marketing (such as radio, billboards, and leaflets) is that it is measurable.

Some of the most important metrics to monitor include impressions, reach, clicks, click-through rate (CTR), and cost per click (CPC).

These metrics can show you which posts performed well and which didn’t. From there, you can adjust your social media strategy to improve future performance. Analytics help you continuously improve and ultimately achieve your business goals.

5. Focusing on followers instead of customers

It’s great to have 100,000 followers. However, how many of them actually like, comment on, and share your posts?

That is the million-dollar question.

Engagement is one of the most important metrics because these are the people who are most likely to become customers. Focus on building relationships with them by replying to comments and direct messages. Even the simplest question on one of your posts could be genuine interest in what you’re offering.

The bottom line
